Introducing Your Jack Russell Terrier To New Dogs

Your Jack Russell may at one time or other have to go to a doggy day care or stay at another home while you are on vacation. Jacks are aggressive and some may not be trained to be around other animals. You need to take your Jack to a dog park or a friend's house and get your dog used to other animals. They may be a little aggressive at first, so keep them on a leash or restraint system. Remember that dogs get acquainted differently than humans so a play for dominance, growing, or sniffing anal glands is a way of shaking hands and getting to know each other.

Sometimes when a Jack Russell is protective of their owner they will act in a negative toward other dogs. You might want to have a friend or family member take the leash and you walk away from the dog to dog introduction. If the other dog were to jump on you or to make a move toward you even to just play, then your protective Jack might react. Watch from afar and in a position where your dog will not try to come or be with you. Watching from inside the house outside the window is best.

Once your dog can associate with other dogs in a friendly manner, you will not have any problems or concerns when it comes to leaving your dog at a doggy daycare or at another residence when you are away. You can have the peace of mind that your Jack Russell will get along with both the people they stay with and the dogs they meet.
